Following the discovery of  some archaeological remains in the initial construction process of Yenikapı metro station, the construction stopped and archaeological excavations have started.  
The excavations have been painstakingly carried out for 8 years now.

Thanks to these excavations, remains were found dating back to 8500 years, and 35.000 monuments were brought to light. These monuments in question include vessels and chapels as well. The station project was taken into consideration again, and an area of 285.250 m² has been announced an archaeo-park.    
The archaeo-park project will be conducted by an affiliate company of the municipality, namely BİMTAŞ and Istanbul 2010 Agency. The procedures are still being carried out to convert the Yenikapı station and the surrounding area into a museum and a park.
